I would like to get other peoples option on the pluses or minuses of wearing the seat belt. This past weekend I was working with a friend and he came close to tipping his tractor. The fact that he was not wearing the belt, he was able to jump to one side and put more weight on the upper side to avoid the tractor from tipping. We got into a discussion about the advantages of not wearing a seat belt if the tractor started to tip... ie: being able to jump off the tractor as it was falling over. Although I am a safty nut, I had to agree that I feel somewhat restrained wearing the belt. The few occasions that I have encountered with feeling like the tractor might tip, I have wondered if wearing the belt would cause more harm if I was strapped to the tractor.
I know the seat belts are installed for safty so there must have been some studys done.. but just wordering what other people think.

The manual is pretty clear. If you have ROPS you use a belt and they keep you safe like a roll bar. If you don't have the ROPS you do not use them so you can jump If you had the belt on you would get crushed in a roll over. ....

We often think things on a tractor happen in slow motion this is not always the case. The more dangerous things happen quickly.
I have walked the tractor on 2 wheels just towing up a steep hill. If I had not pushed the clutch and brake instantly I would have been on the top of the trailer with the tractor on top of me. ....

There is always the debate to use the belt or not. If you are in the position of needing to save the tractor by jumping to one side to distribute weight, then you are doing something seriously wrong to begin with.
If you have a ROPS and it's fully extended (foldable types), then wear the seat belt so you don't fall and get crushed by the tractor. If no ROPS or it's folded down, then do not wear the seatbelt. Those are the rules I live by. I also use the rule of "if it scares me, I don't do it." That makes the ROPS and seatbelt question meaningless because it doesn't put me in an ugly spot to begin with. ....

Not much of a debate in my case, nor my employees.
Not wearing a seat belt while operating a machine is cause for instant dismissal, no warnings.
As has already been stated, if the tractor is in a position where the operators weight shift makes the difference between shiny or greasy side up, then the tractor is in the WRONG place.

I rolled my tractor with the ROPS up. The seat belt kept me safe. I won't even back the tractor out of the garage without the belt on anymore. A nice side benefit is that it keeps you in your seat over rough terrain. ....

I believe that having the seat belt on saved me from serious consequences. For me, there is no doubt. Seat belt on and ROPS up. ....

My idea, and I certainly don't have the experience of some of the other folks who gave given me good tips, is pretty much to always wear the seatbelt except when mowing slowly along fences, etc. so I can twist around and not let the rear finishing mower hit the fence pole. ....
